Until we are together again...
Every life has a measure of sorrow. Sometimes it is this that awakens us.
***Ancient Buddhist Saying
When you bury your friends body in your backyard, you will bury a part of your heart with them. The feelings of loss at times, are incomprehensible. The emptiness that follows is indescribably painful. It is as though your soul has been removed and you are lost in a turbulent sea of darkness.
It is from this magnitude of pain and grief that profound lessons are learned. Our animals teach us about love, compassion, devotion and loyalty. They teach us to be in the present. This is a great awakening.
You will always have a connection with your animal companion, but in a different way. Our loving friends sometimes come back to us in some form. This can be in dreams or in conscious visions, and is a affirmation of eternal love.
Abandon yourself to the complete workings of your companion's heart. Hear, touch and feel what they feel, breathe in when they breathe in and totally be in their aura of light. When you are really close to your dog, you will intuitively know when they are ready to leave. They will tell you.
Death is a natural process. Dying is inevitable and it can be an experience that is honored and loving for both you and your older dog companion. They are there for you till their last beat of their heart, and to be there for them is immeasurable. This is a pure channel of love.
Sometimes euthanasia is chosen as the desired means for them to leave by. Every guardian situation is different with a dog illness, and if pain and suffering needs to be alleviated, then that may be the chosen path. Whatever path is taken, most assuredly have it be one of absolute knowing.
Know in your heart that whatever choice you have made for your friend, it was the right one. With dog health care and with cancer in our dogs, know that you did all you could do and that they understand. Let their unconditional love wrap around your soul and caress your heart. Let your love fill their being, and tell them that they can leave and that it is okay.
All life is going to die eventually and we need to come to peace with it. Letting an animal live out their natural life to the end is a sacred experience. Being there for them in their final hour is profoundly life-altering.
Find the courage to face the end. Our friend has been a gift to be cherished and honored. As they leave their physical form and return to their energy light, know that they will always be. Their spirit and energy is just in a different form. Their love is too pure and strong to ever go away.

"Do not stand at my grave and weep, I am not there I do not sleep, I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumns rain. When you awaken in the mornings hush, I am the swift uplifting rush,of quiet birds in circled flight, I am the stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there, I did not die."
